PERHAM — The Region 14C amateur baseball tournament moves to Perham after completion of day one play at four respective sites around the region Friday evening. The Lake & Pine South champions Nimrod advanced defeating the New York Mills Millers 8-2 in Menahga. The Hi-10 champion Bertha Blazers defeated Carlos 10-3 in Perham. Resorters East champs the Long Prairie Predators put a 10-spot on Bluffton 12-2 at Urbank.
PERHAM — LPGA professional and NDSU record holder Amy Anderson spent the afternoon at Lakeside Golf Club in Perham Friday as part of the 30th annual Tuffy Nelson Classic tournament. Anderson is sponsored by KLN Family Brands of Perham and made a stop at the tournament to compliment the generosity of the Nelson family and provide a clinic for junior golfers during her visit.
PERHAM — Perham and Dent will host the Region 14C and 16C baseball tournaments over eight days from August 1-9. First round games in the eight-team 14C will be played at four different locations in the first round. Two years ago, some residents of Perham may have pondered why a group of people would come together, raise a quarter million dollars, just to fix up an old baseball stadium. Baseball fans from all around the region found out exactly why this past weekend. From the press box down to field level, Tuffy’s Stadium and Krueger Field provided an excellent venue for watching and participating in the American pastime. Bob Schepper and the grounds crew should be highly commended for having the field and stadium in excellent condition.

PERHAM — Alexandria took any air of uncertainty out of Perham’s Tuffy’s Stadium quickly Sunday afternoon and ended the game two innings early in a hitting barrage. Toby Helgeson blasted a grand slam to highlight an eight-run second inning as the defending champions won their fourth straight game of the tournament defeating the Moorhead Blues 19-3 to claim the American Legion Sub State 14 championship.
PERHAM — Fergus Falls and Moorhead battled to a six-all tie after seven innings before a big eighth for both clubs where Moorhead completed the comeback to advance to face Alexandria in the Sub State 14 finals by a final score of 12-9. Noah Strom put Fergus Falls up 8-6 on a slicing double to the left field corner.
FERGUS FALLS — Bemidji defeated the No. 1 Perham Stingers 4-0 to advance to the title game of the VFW district tournament. Perham rallied to eliminate East Grand Forks 2-1 in eight innings to earn a rematch with Bemidji Sunday for the championship and a trip to the state tournament. Patrick Murphy took the loss to Bemidji pitching 4 ⅓ innings allowing three runs, one earned. Matt Benke came on in relief tossing 2 ⅔ allowing one unearned run. Alex Tostenson had two hits; Murphy had one.
PERHAM — No. 4 Alexandria scored early and often to down upset-minded No. 7 Fergus Falls 15-3 in seven innings to advance undefeated to the finals of the Minnesota Sub State 14 American Legion baseball tournament. “We’re hitting the ball well; we pounded out 17 hits,” Head Coach Jake Munsch said. “Fergus Falls came out with some intensity, a lot more than before and that shows a lot about them.”
PERHAM — A Drew Anderson grand slam fueled a nine-run fourth inning as the Moorhead Blues eliminated Bemidji 17-6 in seven innings at the Minnesota Sub State 14 American Legion baseball tournament. Anderson was 4-5 with three singles, the grand slam, two runs scored and seven RBIs to lead the Blues. “We pitched strikes and put a lot on the board,” Anderson said. “It was a good day of baseball.”
