PERHAM — A confident No. 4 Alexandria Post 87 ballclub batted around the order the first three innings in a 14-0 blowout of No. 8 Detroit Lakes in championship quarterfinal play at the Minnesota Sub State 14 American Legion baseball tournament at Krueger Field. “I’m confident in our guys and think we have everything we need to win the tournament,” Head Coach Jake Munsch said. “We still have to go out and execute. We’re good on paper but paper can burn quick.”
The Perham VFW baseball team heads into the sub-state tournament this weekend as the district's No. 1 seed. The Stingers swept then-No. 1 seed Bemidji in the last week of the regular season to steal the crown as top dog in District 9 . The sub-state tournament will be held in Fergus Falls. It begins Friday, July 25, and will continue through Sunday, July 27. In Friday's opening round, the Stingers defeated East Grand Forks 9-1. Alec Meyer recorded the pitching victory giving up one unearned run in six innings on the hill.
The Perham girls softball team won the 12U league championship in a tournament held on July 15 in Park Rapids.
PERHAM — The No. 3 Perham Buzz took advantage of fielding miscues from No. 6 Bemidji en route to a 7-3 victory in the fourth game and nightcap of day one at the Minnesota Sub State 14 American Legion baseball tournament at Krueger Field. Perham jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a double by Tristan Hammans that moved Mason Malikowski to third base. Both runners scored on the same play due to an errant throw from Bemidji right fielder Matt Morgan. The throw ended up in the Perham dugout and the plate umpire allotted home plate to Hammans.
PERHAM — No. 2 East Grand Forks needed three outs with a one-run lead but imploded defensively in the ninth inning to give up a 8-5 loss to No. 7 Fergus Falls in game three of the Minnesota Sub State 14 American Legion baseball tournament at Al Krueger Field Thursday afternoon. Both the top seeds lost after No. 8 Detroit Lakes upset No. 1 Moorhead 2-1 in the 1 p.m game.
PERHAM — Connor Johnson pitched a six-hitter as No. 8-seed Detroit Lakes upset the No. 1 Moorhead Blues 2-1 at Krueger Field in the Minnesota Sub State 14 American Legion tournament. “I felt good after the first inning; I felt really good,” said Johnson. The DL defense aided Johnson’s effort turning three double plays and cutting down a squeeze bunt scoring attempt by Moorhead at the plate.
PERHAM — Starting pitcher Blake Stockert pitched a three-hit shutout and jacked a two-run insurance homer late in the game as No. 4 Alexandria advanced out of the first round of play at the Sub State 14 American Legion baseball tournament Thursday afternoon with a 5-0 victory over the No. 5 Thief River Falls Bandits. “Our hitting was off today,” Stockert said. “That’s not like us. I guess I got my own insurance."
DETROIT LAKES — The Perham Buzz earned a split in two games at the Detroit Lakes Water Carnival Wooden Bat Tournament defeating Thief River Falls 16-6 Saturday in American Legion baseball action. Perham jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning on runs by Josh Still, Mason Malikowski, Jaden Meyer and Tristan Hammans.

PERHAM — The Perham Stingers wrapped up regular season play with a sweep of Fergus Falls 9-4 and 8-2 to finish with a record of 20-9 securing the top seed in the upcoming District 9 playoffs. Perham erased a 1-0 first inning deficit in the second inning with a pair of runs by Brady Stoll and Andy Hanson. Hanson scored the go-ahead run on a base hit by Alex Tostenson.
