For a player who has a distinct preference for baseball, this year has showcased the kind of athlete Adam Snelgrove has become. As one of the only players with experience on a young basketball team that has one win in 19 games, Snelgrove scored his 1,000-point Thursday night in Ulen. "It's a learning year," Snelgrove said.
The No. 11-ranked Perham wrestling team defeated St. Cloud Apollo 65-10 and host Fergus Falls 34-26 at the Fergus Falls triangular Thursday, Feb. 9. The victories secured the top seed in Section 8AA for the Yellowjackets as they make a move for the state team tournament. The Section playoffs begin Saturday, Feb. 19 in Thief River Falls. "This week will be a little bit about luck--who doesn't get sick or hurt will be a big factor for Saturday," Perham Head Coach Robb Moser said.
The last time the Hawley Nuggets came to Perham to face the boys basketball team, a depleted Yellowjacket squad faced the brink of elimination in sub-section playoffs, ultimately, defeating Hawley 65-59 in overtime in mid-March of last season. Jordan Bruhn missed the game, due to pneumonia, and was replaced by Jordan Hein. This year's team has missed Hein's versatility all season due to injury.
A dominant Lakers team from Detroit Lakes swam away with the Mid-State Conference Championship at Park Rapids Friday. Perham finished in third place. The host Panthers placed second. Jayden Cullen led the way for Perham taking home a conference title in the 500-yard freestyle. His time of 5:19.75 was over five seconds faster than DL's Brandon Olson in second, 5:25.05. Cullen earned all-conference honors for the event win and also finished third in the 200-freestyle. Cullen was also a member of two third place relay finishes. "The boys had some great times," Head Coach Sheri Ressler said.

NY Mills' Adam Snelgrove scored 23 points in a 75-56 loss at No. 6-ranked Ulen-Hitterdal Thursday night. Going into the game, Snelgrove needed nine points to reach the 1,000-point milestone. Look for a feature interview with Adam in next week's FOCUS.
HAWLEY - Katrina Moenkedick scored a game-high 15 points to lead Perham to the upset of No. 5-2A Hawley, 32-25, on the road Friday night. The Yellowjackets held the Nuggets to a season-low in points scored.
A Tyler Ehnert pin of Osakis' Ryan Larson in the fourth match of the night gave the New York Mills wrestling team the lead for good in the Prairie Conference Dual Championship. The Eagles went on to defeat the Silverstreaks 37-28 backing up the prior weekend's conference team championship. Both teams were 4-0 in their respective conference divisions this season. The victory also garnered the Eagles the top seed in Section 6A.
PERHAM -- A second meeting by the committee overseeing the removal and replacement of the grandstand at Krueger Field convened Friday, Feb.
Perham three-sport athlete Jesse Hein had a pick of regional colleges to attend this coming fall. The heavily lauded football, wrestling and baseball tri-captain chose Bemidji State University, where he will redshirt his freshman year before taking over duties as the team's starting center. "I thought about where would I want to go if I wasn't playing football," Hein said. "I love the campus and the coaches are awesome.
