Perham got a big road conference win at Hawley Tuesday night needing all five sets for the 3-2 victory (21-25, 25-18, 20-25, 25-15, 15-10). The win was a bit of payback and evens the season series with the Nuggets, who won at Perham Sept. 8 by a score of 3-1. "A much more motivated, confident Yellowjacket team that played in Hawley tonight," Head Coach Dan Christenson said. "The girls came out with fire and kept it throughout the match." Katrina Moenkedick and Brooke Mickelson took over play at the net with 19 and 16 kills each. "Brooke and Katrina really showed up tonight.
Last season, Parents Night for Perham/New York Mills swimmers ended in a one-point squeaker victory for the Yellowjackets over Detroit Lakes. This year, parents got to kick back and watch a performance worthy of a 47-point margin of victory. The Yellowjackets defeated the Lakers handily 116-69. Rylie Rothmeyer made the night memorable by breaking the school record in the 500-freestyle in a time of 5:41.99.
PERHAM -- The Yellowjackets put up double digits in each of the first three quarters cruising through the final quarter to a 46-31 Heart O' Lakes-North conference victory on Homecoming Friday. The victory gives Perham (2-0, 2-2) sole possession of first place in the conference after Park Rapids (2-1, 2-2) upset Pequot Lakes (2-1, 3-1) 29-28 at home to send the ranked Patriots to 2-1 in HOL play. Three touchdowns in the first quarter gave Perham a cushion of 21-7. "It was a fun game to play for our homecoming," Head Coach Mike Jordahl said.
MURDOCK -- Jonah Johnson rushed for 234 yards and scored five touchdowns for Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg as the Fighting Saints defeated New York Mills 47-20 Friday in a Prairie South matchup. Johnson scored touchdowns on a five-yard run and a 40-yard interception return and Brendan Hjelle scored on a nine-yard run for the Fighting Saints (2-0, 2-2) in the first half. The Eagles (0-2, 0-4) trailed 26-20 in the fourth quarter with 10 minutes to go, pulling to within 20-14 when Noah Pesola hauled in a five-yard pass from Charlie Peeters.
PARK RAPIDS -- On the final scoreboard, Park Rapids defeated Perham/New York Mills in swimming Thursday 97-88, but what appears as a loss was a victory in more than one way. "I have never been so happy to lose by nine points," Head Coach Sheri Ressler said.
For the first time all season, the New York Mills tennis team had a full compliment of players making the first full lineup to play for the Eagles this season. "It was nice to finally have a full team to put out there on Parent's Day," Head Coach Gary Bach said. Crosby-Ironton managed a sweep of the Eagles, 7-0. At one-singles, Jenna Esala fought back after a 2-6 first set to force a tiebreaker in the second set before falling 7-3 in the extra frame to Mariah Hudrlik. Playing with a full and healthy lineup for the first time in weeks, the Eagles full compliment dropped a 3-0 match to Bertha-Hewitt (25-17, 25-19, 25-10) Thursday. The victory evened the Bears record at 5-5. The loss drops the Eagles record to 3-7-1, including tournament play, which was on tap last weekend with matches versus Climax-Fischer, Frazee, Ulen-Hitterdal and Hillsboro, N.D.
WADENA -- The Perham volleyball team split four matches going 1-1-2 and last weekend's Minnewaska tournament. The Yellowjackets defeated Osakis 2-0 (25-17, 25-19); tied Hancock 1-1 (31-29, 22-25) and New London-Spicer 1-1 (25-17, 23-25) and lost to Benson 2-1 (25-15, 15-25, 9-15). The Perham boys and girls cross-country teams got a look at the state cross-country course for the first time this year at St. Olaf in Northfield, Minn. "The boys ran just a great race," Head Coach Jeff Morris said. Perham finished behind Minnehaha Academy and ahead of Blake for a fourth place finish. Minnehaha is ranked second in Class A. Perham is fourth. Blake is ranked third. White Bear Lake took the top spot. The Bears are ranked first in Class AA. St.
GLYNDON--The Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton rebels scored their only points on back-to-back first half drives jumping out to a 10-0 lead and made it stick in a closely contested 10-7 victory over Perham. The Rebels managed one first down in their first 11 plays.
