A dump truck box that was elevated came in contact with power lines two miles south of New York Mills at 4:27 p.m. on May 4, according to the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office. The lines fell across a highway and an outage took place. Some residents in the New York Mills area were without electric service for close to two hours. Crews from Lake Region Electric of Pelican Rapids were dispatched to the scene and made repairs.
An intoxicated male fell and broke his leg while walking home from a bar in Dent at 2:51 a.m. on May 4. The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office said the man crawled to a nearby house for help and the homeowner called authorities. The man was transported by ambulance to Perham Health. His name was not released.
Otter Tail County sheriff’s deputies responded to a domestic dispute on May 4 in Dent. A 9-year-old girl was reportedly grabbed by the throat by a woman. The family is working with Someplace Safe and an order for protection was processed May 5.
Otter Tail County sheriff’s deputies reported that a driver drove his car into shallow water of Pleasant Lake, north of Underwood and near Highway 35, at 10:10 a.m. on May 4. The driver, who was not identified by name, escaped injury. The Ford Taurus he was driving was later pulled from the water.
As of May 1, Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Deputies were investigating an alleged assault that took place in Elizabeth on April 30 at 2:05 a.m. No suspect was immediately identified. The victim, a male, reportedly suffered a fractured nose and cheek and sustained a gash on his chin.
Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Deputies and Fergus Falls police were involved in a three-mile chase of a man on a motorcycle April 29 in Fergus Falls. Speeds reached 60 miles per hour. The chase of 19-year-old Walker Buchholz of Fergus Falls began on North Tower Road on the northwest side of town and ended at the intersection of First Avenue and Spruce Street, east of M State.
A man from Erhard and another from Vergas have been arrested and charged with felony assaults by strangulation. Sean Patrick McKeag, 29, of Erhard, was arrested on April 28. Two days later, on April 30, Dustin Paul Dahring, 34, of Vergas, was arrested. They were taken to the Otter Tail County detention center in Fergus Falls. Sheriff’s deputies responded to calls made by the choking victims and/or family members.
The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office reported that the wheels of a vehicle and fish house being pulled broke through the ice near a pressure ridge on Jan. 10 at 4:33 p.m. on the west side of West Battle Lake. “The vehicle owner was pulling the fish house onto the lake with a 2008 Chevy Trailblazer,” said the Sheriff’s Administrative Lt. Keith Van Dyke.
A semi with a trailer full of potatoes tipped onto its right side east of Perham on Jan. 10 at 10:30 a.m. The accident took place at the intersection of Highway 8 and 565th Avenue. A local farmer assisted the owner of the truck, Craig Pietila of Menahga, Minn., with removing the load of potatoes. The semi and trailer were towed by J&D Towing of Osage, Minn.
Spencer McGrew, 27, a native of Rollag, Minn., was hired as Otter Tail County’s first Aquatic Invasive Species Task Force Specialist. McGrew was introduced to county commissioners at a March 22 meeting by County Land and Resource Director Bill Kalar. Kalar and Marsha Bowman of the Land and Resource office have served as technical advisors since the inception of the AIS Task Force three years ago.
