1976 Perham grad honored

Dave Schroeder, the athletic director at Maple Lake High School, and a former (Perham athlete and coach) was honored recently as the AD of the Year. He graduated from PHS in 1976.

Dave Schroeder, the athletic director at Maple Lake High School, and a former (Perham athlete and coach) was honored recently as the AD of the Year. He graduated from PHS in 1976.

He has been a leader and mentor in the profession for the past 30 years and his service to the MNIAAA and the MSHSL over that time has been extraordinary, according to the Minnesota State High School League.

He has attended 29 state conferences and five national conferences, serving as a presenter, invocator, moderator and hospitality room coordinator. Schroeder has served on various MSHSL Ad Hoc committees, two terms on the MSHSL Representative Assembly and on the AD Advisory Committee.

He has been on the Region 5A Board of Directors for three terms, and has coordinated many Section and Subsection tournaments across a myriad of activities.

For his efforts, Schroeder has been recognized, by his peers as the SS AD of the Year in 1996, 2003, 2011 and 2016. He was awarded Region 5A AD of the Year in 2012 and 2016.

At Maple Lake High School, Schroeder has been a positive influence for students, coaches and the community. During his tenure, he has helped MLHS add nine new sports, Speech and 1 Act Play. Under his leadership the Irish have been very successful, having won 46 conference titles and have sent 29 teams, two activities and numerous individuals to the State Tournament. Coaches describe his presence and influence as, "encouraging, organized, supportive, advocate, excellence, visible, positive, kind and compassionate" to name a few.

Maple Lake's High School Principal, Dave Hansen says Dave is, "prepared and organized, has high expectations and is an influential leader."

"He has excellent rapport with students and staff," said ML Superintendent Mark Redemske. "He is the kind of person to whom students and staff are drawn, so it is common to see Dave talking with people in the hallway or his office."

Dave is a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, has served as the chair of the Maple Lake's annual Fishing contest and the local Toys for Tots drive and has been awarded the Blandin Foundation Community Leadership scholarship.

Cutline: Dave Schroeder was named the 2016 Paul Krueger Class A AD of the Year.
