United Community Bank organized a series of fundraisers in Perham and Frazee Sept. 26-30, during what they dubbed "Honor Week," for the WDAY Honor Flight program based out of Fargo, N.D.

The fundraiser consisted of selling Honor Flight merchandise as well as hosting a bake sale and luncheon. In addition, Perham and Frazee merchants donated a portion of their proceeds during the week to the Honor Flight program.

Altogether, the communities raised $6,005.17-enough to send eight veterans to the Washington D.C., memorials during the next flight (tentatively scheduled for May 2017).

WDAY Honor Flight representative Dave Brunsvold visited United Community Bank on Oct. 7 to accept the donation. He conveyed his gratitude to the entire community for its generosity and said that, without such fundraising efforts, they would be unable to give this memorable gift to area veterans.

The WDAY Honor Flight is a certified regional hub of the national Honor Flight Network. The goal of WDAY Honor Flight is to send area veterans to memorials in Washington, D.C. free of charge.
