Perham turtle racing underway

A field of 103 racers competed last Wednesday as the 40th year of Perham International Turtle Racing kicked off at Turtle Park.

Nathan Becker of Lincoln, Neb. took top honors. Second and third place finishers were Nebraska’s Hunter Van Hoozer and Oklahoma’s Samantha Baumann.

Miss Perham Outstanding Teen Hannah Beck was among the throng who attended the opening day of racing.

Turtle races are held every Wednesday in June, July and August at Turtle Park. Registration begins at 10 a.m. with races beginning at 10:30 a.m.

The Perham Chamber of Commerce looks for the number of racers to increase to 500 by July.
