Perham and the surrounding community continues to rally in support of late Perham graduate Gabriele Grunewald.
Friday, June 28, Perham Hockey sponsored a block party to raise money for the Brave Like Gabe Foundation.
The event started with a 1.405 mile run around downtown Perham followed by food, drinks, yard games and music by Erin Anderson and Patrick Murphy.
Grunewald's high school coach, Jeff Morris, explained the significance of Grunewald's favorite number, 1405: 14 was a random number she was assigned in a race, and 05 was her number in high school basketball.
After her second cancer diagnosis, Grunewald got good news everytime she saw that number, Morris said.
Before Friday the run kicked off, Morris told the crowd that Perham had the opportunity to see "Brave Like Gabe" before the world did.
"Running was just preparing her for something bigger," Morris said. "Her foundation has a global impact."
Around 50 people participated in the fun run, including a number of Grunewald's former teammates and classmates.
