The 2020 Minnesota Governor’s Opener is coming to Otter Tail County next year, and the county’s planning committee is seeking volunteers to help in a number of ways.
Most of the events occurring between May 7-10 are intended to accommodate media who will be covering the event, but there will be plenty of opportunities for public involvement, according to a news release.
A free community picnic at Phelps Mill Park is planned for May 8, and an online countywide fishing derby will allow anglers to experience the weekend’s events.
Committee Chairman Erik Osberg estimates 120 boat hosts will be needed to escort various media on the water during the event.
“You don’t need to be an expert angler or a pro to a boat host. You just need to be friendly and gracious,” Osberg said in the release. Boat hosts will be able to choose which lake they would like to fish with their guests.
The planning committee is also seeking 500-600 volunteers throughout the weekend. Those opportunities will be announced in the coming months. Sponsorships and donations are now being accepted, as the planning committee looks for partners to highlight different outdoor recreation opportunities in Otter Tail County.
