For the second year, the COVID-19 pandemic has caused the Humane Society of Otter Tail County to cancel their spring fundraising dinner. From April 29 to May 3, the HSOTC will be hosting an online auction on their Facebook page.
In the past, the dollars raised at the spring dinner have contributed significantly to the annual operating budget of the shelter, according to a Humane Society news release. Board member Amy Sund says the HSOTC has had to get particularly creative in finding other ways to make up for this revenue loss.
“People seemed to have a lot of fun with the auction we hosted in 2020 and we hope to make it even bigger this year,” Sund said in the release.
The HSOTC is asking the public to contribute to this online auction by dropping items off at the shelter, located at 1933 W Fir Avenue in Fergus Falls, during regular business hours. All items need to be new, or handmade and delivered no later than April 27. Items that appear used will not be accepted. Gift cards are always welcome too.
The online auction starts on Thursday, April 29 and runs until noon on Monday, May 3. You can sign up to attend this event and bid on items on the Humane Society of Otter Tail County Facebook page. Complete instructions for bidding are listed on the event page.
According to the release, the HSOTC provides a safe haven and loving care to over 1,000 dogs and cats that enter their doors every year. “The shelter is an independent non-profit 501c3, not affiliated with any national organization or government entity. They rely solely on donations to continue operations and are grateful for every dollar they receive,” as Sund said in the release.
