Several volunteers lent a helping hand to their community. On Friday, April 23, at 3 p.m., countless cars lined up for the Farmers to Families food giveaway, where 800 units of food were given to anyone in need.

This food box program was hosted by WE Fest and the Boys and Girls Club of Perham Area. There were no requirements for receiving food. People were encouraged to take any additional boxes for friends or acquaintances in need who couldn't make it.

The giveaway took place at 643 Third Ave. SE. People drove up in their cars, opened their trunks and volunteers filled the trunks with food boxes.

One volunteer, Jen Nelson, loves doing things for other people. "This (giveaway) was the perfect opportunity (to help others)," she said. Her favorite part of participating in this program is knowing that she's helping others.

Another volunteer, Jamie Benhardus, decided to volunteer so she could get out into the community and help in any way she could. She said, "(My favorite thing about this program) is just helping other people. I mean, it's wonderful."

A fourth distribution event is being planned for Monday, May 17.
