Calling all caffeine aficionados in Detroit Lakes, Perham, Lake Park, Hawley and surrounding communities... the first ever Lakes Area Coffee Crawl is coming to a coffee house near you!
The inaugural event is set to take place on Saturday, Sept. 18, with five area coffee houses — including two in Detroit Lakes! — participating. Tickets are $14.50, and admission includes a commemorative mug, a map/passport card detailing where the participating venues are located, and five specially-crafted, complimentary beverages (one at each stop).
Ticketholders will be able to venture out to La Barista and Mi Cartegena Cafe in Detroit Lakes, Gathering Grounds in Perham, Mysie's Nutrition in Lake Park and Fill Thy Cup in Hawley for a cup of freshly brewed java, anytime between 7:30 a.m. and 2 p.m., with those stopping at all five being eligible for a special prize drawing.
Participants should get their map/passport stamped at each stop, then drop off their completed passport at one of the five locations by the end of the day. At each stop, participants will also be treated to a unique, fall-flavored brew crafted just for the occasion.
"All five of us have come up with a different fall drink," says Kelsey Giere, owner of Fill Thy Cup in Hawley, who is the creative force behind the crawl.
Giere, who opened her business back in January, said she had a lot of friends who also owned coffee houses in the area, and they thought it might be fun to do a community event, similar to a pub crawl — but with coffee instead of beer.
"We'd like to make it a yearly thing," says Giere.
