Happenings around the Perham area, July 14-24

Correction: The ice cream social event listed in last week's Happenings as occurring on July 16 at St. Henry's Catholic Church actually took place on June 16. There is no ice cream social at St. Henry's this week, though there will be one at Calvary Lutheran Church on Thursday.

Summer Social: Calvary Lutheran Church, 619 Third Ave. SW, Perham, will host a summer social from 4 to 7 p.m. Barbecue plates, pie and ice cream will be served, with proceeds to benefit local and global ministries of the Women of Calvary.

Saturday, July 16

Live Music: Rachel Ianiro performs at Perham's 1894 , 6 p.m.; Rick Adams performs at Big Pine Lodge , 6 p.m.

Dent Daze: The Dent Community Club presents its annual Dent Daze celebration from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., with a pancake feed, 1K bubble run, pedal tractor races, bake sale, live music by local musician Katie Baker, and the Grand Parade at 11 a.m. Visit the community club's Facebook page for all the latest details.

Sunday, July 17

Live Music: Kyle Colby performs at Perham's Disgruntled Brewing , starting at 4 p.m. Open to the public.

Vergas Triathlon: A triathlon benefitting the Vergas Pickleball program will get underway at 8 a.m. on the Vergas City Beach at Long Lake. Participants will swim 500 yards, bike 13 miles and run 3.5 miles. Hosted by Otter Coffee & Ice Cream. Register online at gopherstateevents.enmotive.com .

Tuesday, July 19

Old-Time Variety Dance: Stan's Country Dutchmen will provide the music for an Old-Time Variety Dance taking place from 1-4 p.m. at the Frazee Event Center. All are welcome; admission is $5 per person.

Live Music: Musician Kyle Colby performs at Brew Ales & Eats in Perham, 7-10 p.m.

Wednesday, July 20

Sand Volleyball: The St. Henry's Sand Volleyball League plays games at 7 and 8 p.m. on the sand courts at Arvig Park.

Thursday, July 21

Live Music: The Perham Center for the Arts will host an outdoor concert by Generation Gap 3.0 as part of its summer music series, starting at 6:30 p.m. As the concert will be held outdoors, on the center grounds, attendees are asked to bring a lawn chair or blanket for seating. In case of rain, concert will be held inside. Concessions available; raffle drawings start at 7:15 p.m. Admission is a free will donation.

Sunday, July 24

North Stars Water Ski Show: Come out to the Vergas City Beach and watch the North Stars Water Ski Show from 4 to 5 p.m. No admission fee; open to the public.

Multi-Day and Recurring Events

East Otter Tail County Fair: The East Otter Tail County Fair will be held at the EOT fairgrounds in Perham, July 19-24. Open class, FFA and 4-H livestock exhibits, arts and crafts exhibits, carnival midway, tractor pulls, demolition derby, live music, rooster crowing contest, farm animal scavenger hunt, Polka in the Park and more. International Turtle Races: Perham offers turtle racing every Wednesday, June through August, at Turtle Race Park (next to the Perham Chamber of Commerce), starting at 10:30 a.m. (registration starts at 10 a.m.). Turtles are provided, or bring your own. Suggested donations of $2 per racer help care for the turtles over the summer months. All ages welcome to participate.

Mah Jongg at Calvary Lutheran: Men and women are welcome and play Mah Jongg at Perham's Calvary Lutheran Church on Thursdays at 12:30 p.m. in the library. No prior experience necessary, as experienced players will teach the game to newcomers.

Sit-n-Stitch: A weekly gathering of fiber artists will be held every Thursday from 6 to 7:15 p.m. at the Cultural Center in New York Mills. Free and open to all.

Progressive Bingo: Every Tuesday, 6-7 p.m., Thumper Pond, Ottertail.

Glendalough Scavenger Hunt: Beginning June 1, visitors to Glendalough State Park can add some extra fun to their summer experiences with an educational scavenger hunt launched by Parks & Trails Council of Minnesota. This scavenger hunt is tailored to Glendalough, highlighting 19 different types of birds, mammals, wildflowers, trees and recreational activities that can be found there. The hunts are designed for all ages, but with a special attention to parents of young children. Summer Museum Activities: STEAM into Summer with NASA–approved activities at the Otter Tail County Museum in Fergus Falls, every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The museum received an Earth and Space grant from the National Informal Science Education Network, which enables them to offer STEAM and STEM activities in both English and Spanish versions. The grant provides hands-on activities and games for the whole family, covering topics such as Asteroid Mining, Nebula Spin Art, Orbiting Objects and Space Guess Quest. All activities are free. Perham Networking Opportunity: The Nest in Perham will host a one-hour free business networking opportunity on the first Wednesday of every month, starting at 8:15 a.m. Personal introductions, sharing of upcoming events and projects, and a focus presentation. Coffee will be provided by the focus topic presenter.

Tuesday Trivia Night: Billy's Corner Bar & Grill in Vergas will be offering Trivia Night every Tuesday at 7 p.m. Open to the public.

Old Time Photographs: Stop by the History Museum of East Otter Tail County, at 230 First Ave. North in Perham, and take a trip down memory lane.
