It's time to get your Halloween on! Various parties and trunk-or-treating events will be taking place around the area this weekend as well as on the official holiday, Monday, Oct. 31. Check the calendar below for the full list.

Boys and Girls Club Fundraiser: The Boys and Girls Club of Perham will host its fall fundraiser at The Cactus (43521 Fort Thunder Road) in Perham from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Evening includes a casual dinner, live music, silent auction, and Minute to Win It games for cash prizes. The dinner will be followed by a brief presentation and dessert. Tickets are $55 each and may be purchased online at .

LWML Fall Rally: The Detroit Lakes area chapter of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML) will host its fall rally, with the theme "Life Worth Living," at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 500 6th Ave. SW, Perham, with registration starting at 9 a.m. and followed immediately by the rally. Guest speaker is Virginia Flo, volunteer relations director Lutherans for Life, based in Nevada, Iowa. Her theme is "God Chose You."

Adoptive Moms Retreat: A retreat for parents of adopted children will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Christian Fellowship Church, 28048 Meadow Drive, Detroit Lakes. Keynote speaker Sarah How will speak on "Finding Strength for the Journey," and lunch, snacks and informational materials, including How's interactive workbook, are provided as part of the all-inclusive $50-per-person fee. Frazee Craft and Vendor Show: The 43rd annual Frazee Craft & Vendor Show will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Frazee Elementary School. More than 60 booths will be on site, with lunch available all day. Hosted by the Frazee Lions Club.

Catholic Daughters Style Show: St. Henry's Catholic Church in Perham will host the 53rd Annual Catholic Daughters Style Show in the church basement, starting with brunch at 9:30 a.m. The meal will be followed by the style show, silent auction and door prizes. Tickets are $20 each, and may be purchased in advance at Nadine's, the Perham Chamberoffice, Dot & Minnie’s, North Threads and the St. Henry’s church office. They will also be sold at the door.

NYM Halloween Party: The New York Mills Civic and Commerce Association will host a free Halloween party for kids age 10 and under from 12 to 3 p.m. at the NYM Regional Cultural Center, with crafts, games and lots of family-friendly fun. Children under the age of eight must be accompanied by an adult.

Perham Area Miss and Teen Competitions: A public pageant showcasing all the participants in the Miss Perham, Miss Heart of the Lakes, Miss Lady Slipper, Perham’s Outstanding Teen and Heart of the Lakes Outstanding Teen competitions will be presented at 6 p.m. in the Perham Auditorium. Competition categories will include interview, red carpet and talent. Winners of these local titles will not only earn education scholarships, but also an opportunity to advance to the Miss Minnesota and Minnesota's Outstanding Teen competitions in 2023. Cost is $10 for adults, or free for young children (i.e., preschool age and younger) as well as students in grades K-12. A Hocus Pocus Halloween: Big Pine Lodge will host a "Hocus Pocus"-themed Halloween party starting at 8 p.m., with a costume contest featuring cash prizes.

Bethlehem Lutheran Trunk or Treat: Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 210 E. Maple Ave., Frazee, will host a trunk or treat event from 4 to 6 p.m. Trunk sponsors and treat donations are still being sought; contact Madi Aeikens at 701-238-5222 or send an email to for more information.

Four Corners Trunk or Treat: The Four Corners Lions Club is hosting a Trunk or Treat at Lakes Corner Liquor, 18097 Co. Hwy. 29, Detroit Lakes, 3-6 p.m. In addition to treats being handed out, hot dogs and other fun will be offered. The Four Corners Lions Club requests those who attend bring a Thanksgiving food item for the Becker County Food Pantry.


Monday, October 31

Painted Turtle Face Painting: Want some professional face painting to complete your kid's costume (or your own)? Come to The Painted Turtle's new studio at 235 W. Main St., Perham, between 12-5:30 p.m. and get your Halloween on. Prices start at $15.

Halloween Boo Bash: The Frazee Event Center in Frazee will host a Halloween Boo Bash from 4 to 7 p.m., with free games and treats along with a pulled pork sandwich dinner for a free will offering.

Frazee Trick or Treat Parade: Area kids are invited to line up in their costumes, starting at 5 p.m. in front of the Frazee Elementary School on Hickory Avenue, then join the parade march beginning at 5:30 p.m. The parade route is dependent on whether construction is completed at the Lake Street and Main Avenue intersection.

New York Mills Trunk or Treat: A trunk or treat event will be held at the New York Mills City Center, 118 N. Main Ave., from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. All are welcome to enjoy some family-friendly fun and Halloween treats.

Perham Trunk or Treat: A Trunk or Treat event will be held at United Community Bank, 301 W. Main St., Perham from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The bank is partnering with area businesses to offer plenty of on-site trick or treating.

Vergas Halloween Party: The Vergas Lions are sponsoring a Halloween Party at the Vergas Event Center from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. There will be fun games for the kids to play.

New Horizons Halloween Party: A Halloween party will be held at New Horizons Realty, 423 W. Main, Perham, starting at 5 p.m. Costumes encouraged.

Tuesday, November 1

Perham Esports Informational Meeting: Perham High School will host an informational meeting for parents, caregivers and kids interested in becoming part of the school's esports team, starting at 6 p.m. in the PHS Studio. Students must be at least age 13 by Nov. 28 in order to participate. Learn more at the event's Facebook page .


Wednesday, November 2

Medicare 101: Melissa Dahl, Otter Tail County Coordinator on Aging, will be giving a special "Medicare 101" presentation about the process of applying for Medicare medical coverage at 9 a.m. in Perham's City Hall. Open enrollment for Medicare coverage ends Dec. 7; now is the time to think about making changes to your policy, or enrolling for the first time. Open to the public.

Defensive Driving Class: A 4-hour refresher, in-person Defensive Driving Class will be held from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the ITOW (In Their Own Words) Veterans Museum, 805 W. Main, Perham. Cost is $20. To register please call Denise Lillis at 218-346-3336.

Empowering Kids Meet and Greet: Empowering Kids of Perham will host a meet and greet with autism parent and advocate Kate Swenson at 6 p.m., followed by her presentation at 6:30 p.m. Swenson is the author and owner of Finding Cooper's Voice , a website and a community that shares the secret world of severe autism.

Christmas Plus Bazaar: Prairie Wind Middle School in Perham will host a Christmas Plus Bazaar from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Hosted by the Lakes Area Penguin Swimmers.

Live Music: Rick Adams performs at 1894 in Perham, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m., as part of the restaurant's Halloween party.

Meat Raffle: The Rockin' Horse Cafe in Richville hosts meat raffles every Saturday night at 6 p.m., with proceeds benefiting the the Otter Tail Rod and Gun Club.

Off the Wall Art Exhibit: The new "Off the Wall" dimensional art exhibit at the Lake Region Arts Council Gallery in Fergus Falls runs through Dec. 23. Featured artists include Penny Kagigebi of White Earth Ojibwe, Rick Kagigebi of Lac Courte Oreille, Mary Jo Wentz of Battle Lake, Cathy Oehler of Detroit Lakes, Vicky Radel of Norcross, Jarod Marrow of Fergus Falls, Phyllis Joos of Hancock, Judy Christoffersen of Dent, Kae Homeman of Erhard, Kristi Kruder of Battle Lake, Dar Eckert of Fergus Falls, Timothy Cassidy of New York Mills, Mary Williams of Clitherall, Brian Christensen of Fergus Falls and Carl Zachmann of Fergus Falls. Baby Bin: Come look through the baby bin at Crosspoint Alliance Church, 600 8th St. NE, Perham, on the first Tuesday of every month from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. All WIC participants receive one pack of diapers and wet wipes. Everyone may look through our children's clothing, sizes 0-10.

Perham Networking Opportunity: The Nest in Perham will host a one-hour free business networking opportunity on the first Wednesday of every month, starting at 8:15 a.m. Personal introductions, sharing of upcoming events and projects, and a focus presentation. Coffee will be provided by the focus topic presenter.

Mah Jongg at Calvary Lutheran: Men and women are welcome and play Mah Jongg at Perham's Calvary Lutheran Church on Thursdays at 12:30 p.m. in the library. No prior experience necessary, as experienced players will teach the game to newcomers.

Sit-n-Stitch: A weekly gathering of fiber artists will be held every Thursday from 6 to 7:15 p.m. at the Cultural Center in New York Mills. Free and open to all.

Old Time Photographs: Stop by the History Museum of East Otter Tail County, at 230 First Ave. North in Perham, and take a trip down memory lane. The museum would like the public's help identifying old photos. Hours are 11 a.m.-4 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, and 9 a.m.-12 p.m. on Saturdays. Call 218-346-7676 for more information.
