The Perham Focus accepts community calendar items for publication online and in our Thursday print edition, space permitting. Submissions must be made at least a week in advance of the event date, in writing, to either editor@perhamfocus.com or vgerdes@dlnewspapers.com .

Each submission must include the date, time and location of event, whether it is recurring or a one-time happening, and where to go for more information (phone, email and/or website). Also include whether the event is free or paid admission, and how much it costs when applicable.

Frazee Community Blood Drive: The Frazee community will host a blood drive for Vitalant from 1:45-6 p.m. in the Frazee Event Center. For an appointment contact Mary at 218-849-0645 or go online to vitalant.org and use the donation code FRAZEE.

Navigating Grief Workshop: Hospice of the Red River Valley is hosting a virtual class on "Navigating Grief and Self-Care for Yourself and Others," starting at 11:30 a.m. Free and open to the public, but pre-registration required by April 6. Perham Chamber Choice Awards: The Perham Area Chamber of Commerce will present its 2022 Chamber Choice Awards Banquet at The Cactus, starting with a 5:30 p.m. social hour. Dinner is at 6:30, followed by the awards program. Reservations required to attend the dinner. Contact the chamber by email at chamber@perhamcc.com or call 218-346-7710. Those who are unable to attend the meal are invited to the 7:15 p.m. awards ceremony, which is open to the public.

Otter Tail County Housing Summit: The Otter Tail County Housing Summit will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Thumper Pond Resort, 300 Thumper Lodge Road, Ottertail. Presenters will share the progress of The Big Build, the County’s housing growth and investment initiative. Builders, developers, lenders, landlords, employers, local government officials, policymakers, partner agencies, and the media are encouraged to attend this free event. Lenten Fish Fry: The Knights of Columbus, Council 12581 will host a Lenten fish fry from 5-7 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frazee. Cost is $10 for a meal that includes fish, scalloped potatoes, coleslaw, bread and ice cream, with proceeds to go to fixing the pews at the church. Meals are for pick-up and take-out only.

Saturday, April 9

Maple Syrup Festival: The Vergas community will host its annual Maple Syrup Festival from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Events include a pancake breakfast with fresh maple syrup from 8-11 a.m.; a 5K "Saps Running" Walk Run at 9 a.m. (registration at Billy's Bar starting at 8 a.m.); horse-drawn wagon rides from 9 a.m. to noon; a Maple Leaf Hunt at 10 a.m. for ages 6 and under; and Sugar House Tours throughout the day, weather permitting.

NYM Hall of Fame Reception: The New York Mills Booster Club will host the 2nd Annual Induction into the New York Mills Athletic Hall of Fame and the New York Mills Wall of Fame at New York Mills City Hall. Social at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 6 p.m. and induction ceremonies at 7 p.m. There is a cost to attend; RSVP to Bryan Dunrud at bdunrud@nymills.k12.mn.us or 651-402-0943 by Sunday, April 3 for the dinner. Everyone is invited to attend this event and no RSVP is necessary for those not having the meal.

EOT Deer Hunters Banquet: The East Otter Tail Chapter of the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association will host their annual fundraiser banquet at the Playtime Sports Bar and Ballroom in Perham, starting with a 5 p.m. social hour. Hedy! Live Performance: Actress Heather Massie will present "Hedy: The Life and Inventions of Hedy Lamarr" at 6 p.m. in the New York Mills Regional Cultural Center. Massie will bring to life the Viennese-born Hollywood film star of the 1930s-50s, highlighting her unexpected scientific genius. A live question and answer session will follow the performance. Saturday, April 16

Easter Egg Hunt: The Ottertail City Chamber of Commerce is hosting an Easter Egg Hunt in the Ottertail City Park, starting at noon. Four age groups will be in the hunt for more than 5,000 candy-filled eggs and 130 "special" prizes, until all of the prizes are claimed. The Easter Bunny will be on hand for photos from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. No cost to attend.

Multi-Day and Recurring Events

M State Theater Spring Play: Minnesota State Community and Technical College's Waage Theatre in Fergus Falls will host three performances of "Oh My God, It's Another Play!" on April 8-10. Admission to the Rich Orloff comedy is free; performances will take place at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 8 and 9, and 2 p.m. Sunday, April 10.

Pam Robinson Art Exhibit: The meeting room walls of the Perham Area Public Library will showcase the eclectic creations of local artist Pam Robinson through the end of April. Inspired by her travels, she has created a small collection of colorful highland cow paintings, Scottish Highland landscape and seascape assemblages, as well as a small sampling of travel journals and sketches. Library hours are Monday-Thursday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Perham Area Public Library is located at 225 2nd Ave. NE, Perham. Perham Networking Opportunity: The Nest in Perham will host a one-hour free business networking opportunity on the first Wednesday of every month, starting at 8:15 a.m. Event will include personal introductions, sharing of upcoming events and projects, and a focus presentation. Coffee will be provided by the focus topic presenter.

Old Time Photographs: Stop by the History Museum of East Otter Tail County, at 230 First Ave. North in Perham, and take a trip down memory lane.
