Local men cut, bruised in accident

Tom Wegscheid, 19, of Perham received cuts on his arm and side and bruises on his hip and knee Saturday night when the car he was driving collided with a pickup truck driven by Gary Campbell of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin. Wegscheid’s passenger, Lynn Evanson, 18, received slight cuts on his arm and knee.

Loses license on careless driving charge

An 18-year-old Dent young man was fined $50 and had his license suspended for 90 days in Perham Municipal Court on charges of careless driving and beer in possession. The young man, Steve Collins, was arrested by local officer Dale Schmidt on Saturday evening.

Highway Patrol inspects vehicles

Minnesota Highway Patrol officers Arlo Grabow and Warren Hoeschen inspected 134 vehicles in Perham Monday under the Minnesota Vehicle Inspection program. 87 had seat belts installed; 23 had belts in use. The officers made one arrest for no driver’s license.

Horse Power!

The big draft horses are back. They’ll be pulling at the 23rd annual Pioneer Festival. The pullers take great pride in having their teams be eye-catching as well as earth shaking. A majority will have harnesses worth about as much as the typical new car.

'Possibilities' 2020 brainstorms 100 of them

What are the “possibilities” for the Greater Perham community? That question was thrown on the floor of Vision 2020’s meeting, with 100 possibilities emerging. The point of the discussion was to brainstorm a master list, that can be used to set sights on the future. City Manager Bob Louiseau said afterwards he’s extremely pleased by what came forth, because it will help residents and the local governmental bodies prioritize future projects. Some of the ideas included a PACC addition, new library, historical museum and an expanded industrial park.

Becka’s Pizza Plus now open

Becka’s Pizza Plus recently opened in Perham. Owner Lori Kahles says she’s especially proud of her pizzas made with fresh dough made daily. Although it’s new to Perham, Becka’s Pizza Plus isn’t new to the area. Lori started the business in New York Mills, but outgrew the kitchen in that location. Becka’s is named after her 5-year-old granddaughter, Rebecca Kahles.
