Council lets nursing home construction, bond bids
The Perham Village Council in a confusing and sometimes confused meeting Monday evening effectively acted to go ahead and build the new nursing home in conjunction with Memorial Hospital and St. James home. The projected cost of the building at this time is around $550,000. The difference above the sale of the bonds would be made up from funds contributed by the Hospital Association and the Franciscan Sisters.
Dead fish infest shores of Little Pine
Countless dead fish have been floating onto the beaches of Little Pine Lake for the last several weeks, according to reports last week from several north shore residents. Frank Radent told the Enterprise-Bulletin that he had buried 39 fish on Thursday morning.
Hospitalized following Glyndon auto accident
Larry Eckre of Frazee was hospitalized in St. Luke’s hospital in Fargo following an auto accident over the Labor Day weekend. He suffered a dislocated knee and cuts and bruises on the face. He is reported in good condition. Larry is the son of Gordon Eckre.

A Perham start for Head Start
Head Start is coming to the Perham area. A total of 30 youngsters will be eligible, 18 for the Perham Head Start Center, and 12 home-based. The center is in the former ASCS office in the Huebsch Woodcraft office, adjacent to Perham Subway.
32 head die in fire Tuesday
A dairy barn and 32 head of milk cows was destroyed on the Jason Bachmann farm, 11 miles north of Perham. The day started ominously, with a severe thunderstorm about sunrise. Firefighters from Frazee, Perham and Wolf Lake responded to the fire, hauling numerous tanker loads of water to battle the smoldering fire. Bachmann said he suspected lightning was the culprit in the blaze.
Architectural agreement reached for library
The proposed new Perham Public Library took a small step toward reality Monday evening, when the city council approved a contract with the two architectural firms for the project. Two companies will be sharing the responsibilities for the library project. The city council is working closely on the Library Construction Committee on the building. No construction date has been chosen yet, although it will likely be a couple years or more before it is built.
