Fire causes extensive damage to Robert Riestenberg farm
Approximately 8,000 bales of straw and hay, a pole barn and another barn were destroyed in a fire at the Bob Riestenberg farm Monday. Fire Chief Marlin Zitzow pointed out to the Enterprise Tuesday that even with all the help there were times that the firemen ran short of water. Both the Land O' Lakes truck and the Perham bulk truck hauled water from town. Estimated damages were in the $10,000 to $12,000 range, or more," Zitzow said.
Bob Sieling plays in post-season game
Coach Jim Christopherson will be counting on the defensive play of linebacker Bob Sieling to aid the Cobbers in their upcoming post-season game. Sieling is a 6', 200 lb. junior from Perham. "Bob plays linebacker like a river boat gambler ... fear isn't even in his vocabulary. He has done everything but intercept the snap and he may do that before it's over," said Assistant Coach Sonny Gulsvig. Sieling is the son of Arlin Sieling of Perham.
Perham Chamber to give away $1,300 in cash
Perham will be one of the busiest Christmas shopping centers in this part of the state this year as area residents vie for $100 a day in cold hard cash to be given away daily for 13 days starting Tuesday, Dec. 9. Yes, that's right a total of $1,300 in cash will be given away to lucky shoppers who register each day beginning Dec. 9, at stores with the RED STAR posted on their doors.

Bev's Book Nook now has line of new books
Bev's Book Nook in Perham has doubled their space and has added a whole lineup of new books and other items. Owner Bev Hockett says she will continue to carry used books as she has since she opened the store five years ago. They have also handled new books, but only on an order basis.
Keeping squirrels happy
People have always thought John Haverland was a little bit squirrely. Now they know for sure, because he has embarked on a venture known as "Squirrel Whirl Feeders." It's a device designed to feed squirrels. And you'll enjoy doing so, because Squirrel Whirl will entertain you while it feeds Mr. Squirrel.
Aid Association for Lutherans Branch 1640 of St. John's Lutheran Church of Corliss recently donated $600 in supplemented funds to the Perham area EMS and Perham Fire and Rescue. The money would be applied to equipment purchases.
