Area churches have a variety of programs and services planned for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Some area churches have already held special programs for the Christmas season. Churches who have already held these special programs are encouraging members to worship in their homes at Christmas.
Outstanding young woman
Mrs. Robert (Rhoda) Hooper has been named one of the “Outstanding Young Women of America” and will appear in the annual biographical compilation. This annual program recognizes the abilities of young women between 21 and 35 years old across the United States. Mrs. Hooper was nominated for this honor by Alpha Tau Chapter, Beta Sigma Phi; for her work as a Bluebird leader, Lincoln School PTA treasurer, and for her former position as the chairman for the Detroit Lakes Newcomers club.
Choir concert on air
A Christmas concert will be sung by the Perham High School Senior High Choir. The program will be aired on the Detroit Lakes radio station. It is set to begin at 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, said Sandy DiBrito, the group’s director.

The first-place winner of the Christmas drawing contest sponsored by the Perham Enterprise Bulletin was Jon Hausrath from Heart of the Lakes Elementary. Hausrath received a $15 cash prize for his drawing, which was chosen from over 100 entries featuring sixth-graders from the school district. In second place was Alissa Gottschak from St. Paul’s Lutheran; in third place, Clara Wegscheid from St. Henry’s Catholic; in fourth, Sean Hennagir from Heart of the Lakes Elementary; and in fifth, Jacob Smith from Heart of the Lakes Elementary.
The Richville Methodist Church will be having a live Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus on Christmas Eve at 7 p.m. Randy and Jenny Johnston will be playing Joseph and Mary with their baby Anie Brooke who will represent the Christ Child. The couple will bring the baby to the front of the church. All children present will be invited to come up and see the baby in the manger, while the congregation sings "Away in a Manger."
Closed for the holidays
Winkels Carpet Center wishes you many blessings and great happiness this holiday season. They will be closed from Saturday, Dec. 24, through Monday, Dec. 26, for the Christmas holiday.
