Vergas student picked for Girls State
Perham High School student Rebecca Berend has been named to represent the local American Legion Auxiliary at Girls State. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Berend of Vergas. Miss Berend is active in Band, Inter Nos, Jacket’s Journal, FTA, Speech and Drama, Declamation and GARA.
The rubella clinic at the Perham Public Schools on Feb. 10 was well attended. Nine-hundred and forty-two children received immunizations against German measles; 327 of those immunized were pre-school-aged children. A representative of the State Health Department administered the vaccine with the volunteer help of the local Mrs. Jaycees and Mrs. Janet Kupferschmidt.
The Perham High School Vocal Department received four “Superior” ratings at the District 23 Solo and Ensemble contest Feb. 14 at Detroit Lakes. Students receiving top ratings are Sarah Bauck, Sadi Hanson and Monty Albert, all singing in the solo section. The girls’ ensemble consisted of Sandi Hason, Barb Weis, Mary Sailer, Sally Kawbewski, Susan Kawbewski, Joann Bruchn, Linda Wanderi, Connie Krueger and Patty Laughlin. The students are under the direction of Mr. Sandy DiBrito.

Police officer added
The Perham Police Department is one of 189 Minnesota law enforcement agencies that will be receiving money for an extra police officer, from funds allocated by the crime bill that passed Congress last year. The funds will be used to hire a fifth full-time police officer at the Perham Police Department.
Dog grooming comes to clinic
Lakeland Vet Clinic in Perham now offers dog grooming, with Amber Fehrenbach providing the services for them. Currently, Fehrenbach is still grooming in Moorhead and is only at Lakeland Vet on Thursdays and Fridays, but will soon be moving to Perham to become full-time in early March. She is working as an independent contractor at Lakeland, leasing the space from Lakeland Vet Clinic for her grooming business.
St. Henry’s Christian Mothers Organization of St. Henry’s Parish in Perham is celebrating its 95th anniversary this month. Christian Mothers, who were chartered on Feb. 24, 1901, are holding a mini-retreat on Feb. 26 to mark the occasion. The retreat will be in the basement of St. Henry’s at 2 p.m. and is open to all who wish to attend. Refreshments will be served after the retreat.
