Crash with cows

A one-car/two-cow accident on County Raod 35 between Dent and Vergas at 12:30 a.m. Sunday was reported by the sheriff's office. A car driven by Jame Henry Tenter, St. Cloud, collided with a herd of cows belonging to Harlod Kozelnik, killing two of them. Tenter was heading east on 35 at the time of the accident when he ran into the herd.

Memorial Day grass fire

The Perham firemen were called out Memorial Day afternoon to douse a Burlington Northern caused a grass fire along the tracks west of Perham. The fire started in about the same spot like the big one last August. Fire Chief Marlin Zitzow indicated that several days of rain probably prevented this fire from being serious.

Golf tourney

The Perham Jaycees have set their second annual Clergyman's Golf Tournament for June 15 at the local course. The tourney, which was held for the first time last year, is believed to be the only one of its kind, lead for clergymen of all faiths in the state. Last year's event was generally considered quite a success, although the field of contenders was relatively small.

Burglars again at DQ

A burglar or burglars broke into the Perham Dairy Queen early Monday morning, taking roughly $110 in cash, according to Police Chief Terry Shannon. The burglar(s) attempted to enter from two different locations and, as of Tuesday morning, police were not sure which was used. It appears likely that the burglary happened around 4 a.m. A policeman on foot patrol spotted what might have been a suspect around that time.

New location for two businesses

Scott's Repair is now located in a new building, in the East Industrial Park in Perham. Actually, the business is two businesses as it also houses Crystal Clean Car Care, with Scott's Repair owned and operated by Scoot Gunwall, and the car-cleaning business owned and operated by his wife, Sue. The businesses moving into a space that Gunwall owned as the additional space is needed as the business grows.

Roll Call

A special candlelight memorial ceremony was held during the Memorial Day services last Monday in the VFW club where a candle was lit for each veteran, and auxiliary members who died during the year since last Memorial Day. The roll call included: David Dulski, Jewell Jennings, Elmer Breitenfeldt, Call Miller, Bernard Rogers, Raymond Ladd, James Krueger, George Kempenich, Arme Bahls, Blaine Nyhus, Lewin Hill, Bernard Gladback, Len Boedigheimer, Robert Davidson, Bruce A. Anderson, and Walter Steeke. Auxiliary members who were called were: Delores Pederson, Ethel Morris, Mavis Saevert, Clara Hinz, Minnie Burelbach and Doris Ruether.
