Visiting artist Megan Kruse is in New York Mills for a month-long residency at the cultural center's Arts Retreat.
Kruse is a fiction and creative nonfiction writer from the Pacific Northwest. She studied creative writing at Oberlin College, earned her MFA at the University of Montana, and currently lives near Austin, Tex.
Her creative writing has appeared in Narrative Magazine, The Sun, Thumbnail Magazine, Portland Noir, and "Portland Queer: Tales From the Rose City," among others.
Her short story, "Dollywood," was one of 100 Distinguished Stories listed in Best American Short Stories 2011, edited by Geraldine Brooks.
Kruse is currently working on completing a novel, titled, "Call Me Home."

The public is invited to attend Open Mic Night on Thursday, April 26, at the NY Mills Regional Cultural Center, to hear a reading of excerpts from Kruse's upcoming novel. Kruse will also be available to answer questions following the reading.
The Arts Retreat artist residency offers artists of all disciplines dedicated time for creative development and exploration. The program provides a unique taste of life in rural Minnesota while allowing the artists two to six weeks in which to immerse themselves in their artwork.
The cultural center is now accepting new applications with a deadline of October 1 for residencies from January through June, 2013.
