Schoeneberger Funeral and Cremation Service's longtime funeral director Steve Sheets will be retiring at the end of December, said a news release from Schoeneberger Funeral and Cremation Service. Sheets became the manager there in 1978 and part owner in 1981. Hans Larson, who has served as a funeral director at Schoeneberger since 2007, will transition to managing funeral director and help carry on the legacy that Sheets has established.
“When people think funeral service in Perham, they probably think Steve Sheets,” Larson said. “There have been plenty of times when folks just call him at home for work-related questions. From his days playing on local softball teams to being treasurer for our local ministerial group, he has proven himself as a trusted professional.”
“It has been an honor and a privilege to serve our community the past 42 years,” Sheets said. Sheets became a funeral director because of his desire to help people in their greatest time of need. His loyalty to Schoeneberger Funeral and Cremation Service and the families they serve is unmatched. The funeral home has seen many productive changes throughout Sheets’ time, and he was particularly instrumental in the construction of their new facility in 2017.
According to Larson, the funeral home will be different now without Sheets' presence. “Steve has always provided me with sound advice when I needed it throughout the years,” he said. “Plus, I think Steve was proud to be the first one at work to open the funeral home and make coffee. I’ll miss that.”
In his new role as a manager, Larson plans to continue utilizing current technology to expand the opportunities for serving families. Susan Parsons, who joined the staff as a funeral director intern at the beginning of December, says she is thrilled to be a part of such an established, caring team. She looks forward to getting to know families in the Perham area, where she resides. Larson, Parson, and the team are dedicated to upholding the Schoeneberger tradition of providing exceptional care to the families they serve, just as Sheets has done.
“On behalf of the entire staff at Shoeneberger Funeral and Cremation Service,” Larson said. “I want to thank Steve for his many years of devoted service and for the positive impact he has had on our community.”
