Perham food shelf accepting venison donations

The Bridge Community Pantry in Perham is participating in the venison food-assistance program again this year, according to a news release.

In Minnesota, charitable organizations that operate food assistance programs can accept donations of hunter-donated venison, provided specific program requirements are met. The specific program requirements have been designed to ensure that a wholesome, safe product is being donated statewide, according to the release.

Hunters who wish to donate should field dress their deer, tag it and bring it to Al's Butcher's Blend, 43920 Fort Thunder Road, Perham.

Last year The Bridge Pantry received nearly 600 pounds of ground, lean, venison that was made available to clients, according to the release.

Minnesota Deer hunting season opens Saturday, Nov. 9.
