Brian Miller and Randy Gosa will present a concert of songs of the lumberjack era in Minnesota on Saturday, April 28 at 7:30 p.m. at the cultural center in New York Mills.
Nationally renowned master of Celtic music Brian Miller has delved deep into Midwestern history to find the unique music of Irish and Scottish lumberjacks who worked in the 1800s. Miller started playing Irish music at age 17 in his hometown of Bemidji, Minn., and has since risen to be one of the busiest Irish traditional music performers in the US.
Wisconsin native Randy Gosa is a rising star of Milwaukee's thriving Irish music scene.
Together, Miller and Gosa perform Irish music with a distinctly Midwestern story: the songs and dance tunes carried by 19th century Irish-Americans to the lumber camp bunkhouses of the north woods.
Miller sings songs that once rang through lumber camp bunkhouses where Irish and Scottish men were relied on to entertain the men during the evening hours. Old world ballads mix with colorful local lore and creative arrangements, using voice, guitar and a variety of unusual folk instruments to bring this forgotten folk music to life.

In-between songs, Miller draws on four years of extensive research to describe the lives of singing lumberjacks and the fascinating stories behind their songs.
