The year was 1934. Brothers Roy, Doyle and James Blackwood, along with Roy's son, R.W., formed what was to become the gospel group, The Blackwood Brothers Quartet.

R.W. and Bill Lyles died in a plane crash in 1954. After their deaths, the group continued with R.W.'s younger brother, Cecil, and bass singer, J.D. Sumner. Cecil's son, Mark, joined his family in 1986.

In 2012, Mark formed the Fabulous Blackwood Quartet. The group tours regularly.
