Homes for our Troops and Hemmelgarn Builders started construction on a gifted, customized Perham home in June for Lucas Schmitz, a veteran who lost his right leg after contact with an improvised explosive device in 2006. The community is now invited by Homes for our Troops to Volunteer Day on Saturday, Oct. 9.

Those who attend Volunteer Day will be assisting with landscaping outside of the Schmitz family's new, accessible home located at 42845 Turtle Bay Cir. in Perham. There will be signs to help volunteers locate the event.

Check-in begins at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 9, and landscaping starts at 10 a.m. To RSVP or to learn more information about Homes for our Troops and Schmitz's story, visit hfotusa.org/schmitz .
