Equipment on an Otter Tail Power Company transmission line failed around 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 26. The failure led to electrical arcing and sparking from the pole at the intersection of Third Street NW and First Avenue N.

Members of the Perham Fire Department responded and provided traffic control during the initial response. The area directly under the pole has been marked off with cones and caution tape for safety reasons, until repairs have been made.

Tom Johnson, an operations manager at Otter Tail Power Company, said the issue has not caused any power outages in the area.

The piece of equipment failed, in part, due to the cold weather, Johnson said. When weather is cold and electric demand is high, the part can overheat, he said.

Around 3:30 p.m. today (Feb. 27), a “hot-line truck” is expected to arrive in Perham to make the needed repairs, said Johnson. He explained that using the hot-line truck means that power should not need to be cut in town during the repair process.
