Gymnastics: Perham suffers tough road loss at Melrose

The Perham gymnastics team fell short in Melrose on Tuesday night in a battle of two Section 8A contenders.

The Dutchmen handed Perham its second 8A dual loss of the season by a score of 140.75-137.775. Brittney Lorentz and Avery McAllister continued to lead the Yellowjackets with all-around scores of 36.15 and 34.625.

Lorentz’s highest mark came on the vault at 9.3. She also scored a 9.05 on the floor, 8.875 on the bars and an 8.925 on the beam. Lorentz had the highest all-around score between the two teams. McAllister put up a 9.6 on the vault and a 9.325 on the floor to lead all gymnasts.

Melrose’s Miranda Gieske (36.3) and Courtney Althaus (35.175) carried the load for the Dutchmen. Althouse scored a 9.15 or higher in three out of four events.
