Relay For Life dance camp a success
Last Saturday morning, the Prairie Wind Middle School gym was filled with the sounds of active kindergarten through seventh-grade kids excitedly waiting for the Relay For Life Dance Camp. Thanks to these 58 children and the special efforts of Heidi Swenson and her Just For Kicks dancers, the event was a success.
Lisa Preuss, the event chair, summarized the day.
"The kids liked learning their dances and performing them for the public presentation following the camp," she said. "We are so grateful to Heidi Swenson. We could not have done this without her hard work and dance skills."
The camp began at 8:30 a.m. when the instructors divided the 58 campers into three age groups; each instructor then taught a dance to one group of eager kids.

At noon, they were ready to perform. The audience of more than 200 people was also treated to a dance line performance by the Just for Kicks dance team.
Then, Autumn Moe, a seventh-grader from Frazee, performed an athletic dance. At the end of the program, the audience and dancers congregated in the lunchroom to visit and enjoy the lunch furnished by the Relay For Life Leadership committee.
Donors to the event included Perham Public Schools for use of the gym, Perham Printing for registration forms and the great posters, Goose Crossing for drawing prizes and the Credit Union for the bottled water.
The 58 young dancers formed a team for the East Otter Tail Relay For Life, and wearing their special T-shirts, will join with other teams at the Opening Lap on the night of July 8.
At the end of the camp, Relay For Life Chairperson Lisa Peterson summed up the feelings of all involved.
"Let's do it again next year," she said. "We are so grateful to all who attended, danced, taught or donated."
