Lisa Weber has been named interim principal at Detroit Lakes High School for the coming school year.
She is currently principal at the Detroit Lakes Area Learning Center.
The one-year interim appointment fills a vacancy created in late July by the abrupt resignation of Principal Steve Morben for personal reasons.
“We’re grateful Lisa stepped up and is willing to take the assignment for the year, and we know she’ll do a great job,” said Detroit Lakes Superintendent Doug Froke.
The interim appointment was made because the district believes it’s not the right time to try to fill the position permanently.

“We felt the search for a new principal deserves a longer process than we were able to give because of the time,” he said. The new school year is only a little over two weeks away. It starts Tuesday, Sept. 3.
The applicant pool will be deeper in the spring, and there will be less impact on another school district if an applicant is hired from outside the district, Froke said.
It will also give potential applicants more time to consider a life-changing decision, he added.
A committee interviewed four candidates last week for the position.
Froke announced late Thursday that Weber will lead the high school for the 2013-2014 school year.
“Lisa will do a great job of leading the building and making sure this school year is a great experience for our kids and our staff,” Froke said.
