Construction is ahead of schedule with Perham's 2nd Street project, so Phase 2 is ready to start--four days early.

The acceleration of plans was announced Tuesday morning, July 17 by Perham city manager Bob Louiseau and public works superintendent Merle Meece.

Originally, the removal of asphalt from 2nd Street, from 1st to 3rd Ave., wasn't expected to start until Monday, July 23. But contractors will be moving ahead on Thursday, July 19.

"The road will be passable by car, but the blacktop will be removed," reported Meece. "The digging to replace utilities will start Monday."

The 1st to 3rd Ave. segment of 2nd Street will likely be closed to traffic all week, July 23-27.

"They're slightly ahead of schedule," said Louiseau. "The last two blocks went faster than expected."

The nice weather has helped the pace of the project, added Louiseau.

"Actually, they could use a little rain for better compaction of the ground," he noted.
