DL, Perham Boys & Girls Clubs to host Ride for the Future this Saturday
Saturday, July 7, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Detroit Lakes & Perham will host the 7th Annual Ride for the Future motorcycle ride, to raise awareness for after school and summer programming provided to youth in Becker and Otter Tail counties.
"We are thrilled to be hosting this event again this year," said Sue Trnka, development director for the Detroit Lakes and Perham clubs. "Last year, there were 46 bikes and 64 people on our ride. This year we hope to have 75 bikes and more than 100 people join us on our ride. We have such a great time — many of our riders have attended this ride every year since it began in 2012."
The purpose of Ride for the Future is to celebrate the programs offered to school-aged children at both club units. Club programming focuses on academic success, healthy life choices, and community and civic involvement. Summer attendance is averaging about 200 children per day at both clubs combined.
"Our clubs offer kids opportunities to develop relationships with caring adults, make lasting friendships, practice good character, develop healthy habits, and enjoy lots of fun activities. Ride for the Future is a great way for people to connect with us and learn about our mission," said Patrick Petermann, the clubs' executive director.
Ride for the Future will begin with registration and check-in at the Detroit Lakes City Park near the Pavilion at 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 7. Kickstands will go up at 10 a.m. and riders will tour an approximately 100-mile scenic route, by way of Galaxy Resort on Star Lake, Hillbillies at Erhard, and Pit 611 at Audubon. Lunch will be provided by Pit 611. The ride will end at the Sandbar II in Detroit Lakes, around 4 p.m. The cost of the ride is $20 per bike and $10 per 2-up passenger.
