One injured near Rothsay along I-94

Sheriff deputies reported that one person received a minor injury in a two-vehicle accident on Jan. 22 along Interstate 94 near Rothsay.

The accident took place close to 9:45 a.m.

Otter Tail County sheriff deputies responded to the scene of the accident and were assisted by members of the Minnesota State Highway Patrol.

Not using seat belt can be costly

Across the state of Minnesota, not using a seat belt can result in a penalty of $25 but can cost more than $100 with fees.

In a recent month a New York Mills resident had to pay the $25 ticket plus fees of $85 for a grand total of $110.

"Even more important is that seat belt usage can save the life of a driver or passenger, in the event of an accident," says Otter Tail County Sheriff Administrative Lt. Keith Van Dyke. "Do the right thing and buckle up each time you enter a vehicle."

Man arrested between Elizabeth, Fergus Falls

Sheriff deputies, on Jan. 25, arrested a man with a Pennsylvania address along Highway 59 north of Fergus Falls and south of Elizabeth. The arrest was made at 4:42 a.m.

The man was arrested and charged with attempted burglary, drug possession and DWI. He was taken to the Otter Tail County jail adjacent to the courthouse just south of downtown Fergus Falls.

Arrest made on north side of Perham

A woman was arrested Jan. 27 on the north side of Perham after her vehicle struck a sheriff office vehicle at 2:36 a.m.

The woman, who received a minor injury, was arrested for negligent operation of a motor vehicle and DWI.

The arrest was made near the golf course and close to the intersection of Highways 8 and 51, not far from the southwest side of Little Pine Lake.

Items worth close to $8,000 reportedly stolen

A burglary that took place sometime after Jan. 1 north of New York Mills, and east of Perham, included a dollar amount of close to $8,000 of items stolen.

Taken from a farm site, according to sheriff office deputies, were engine parts, frozen food and tools. An active investigation was ongoing as of Monday morning, Jan. 28.

Theft at Big Chief

A theft of diesel fuel was reported at 7:56 p.m. on Jan. 26 by employees of the Big Chief truck stop south of Fergus Falls.

The amount of diesel fuel taken totaled $75.42. Big Chief employees and other witnesses noticed that the vehicle, a Chevrolet pickup with trailer, did not have a front license plate.
