Sheriff news: Car, snowmobile mishaps northeast of Perham
A snowmobile accident and car accident, northeast of Perham, on the north side of Big Pine Lake, took place within 10 minutes of each other on Sunday, Feb. 10.
A 14-year-old girl was injured while driving a snowmobile at 3:49 p.m. near the intersection of Highway 8 and Wintergreen Road. Her injury was non-life threatening.
At 4:09 p.m. a man from Frazee, age 21, crashed his vehicle into the ditch and struck a Arvig telephone box near the intersection of Highway 8 and Timberlane Drive.
A passenger, age 27 and also from Frazee, was injured in the crash and taken to Perham Health Care. His injury was minor in nature.
Church fire contained in church furnace
A fire at St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Perham on Feb. 9 was contained in a church furnace. The location of the church is near Highway 53 and Mud Lake, northeast of town.
"Pastor Jarod Nies called authorities after seeing a significant amount of black smoke coming from the roof of the church," said County Sheriff Administrative Lt. Keith Van Dyke.
Area firefighters were able to extinguish the small fire in the furnace without incident. A heating company was contacted in order to make the necessary repairs.
The incident took place at 5:14 p.m.
Barn fire contained
A barn fire at Maplewood Drive near Pelican Rapids on Feb. 9 was contained to a piglet warming house inside the barn.
Firefighters were called at 6:51 a.m.
Cemetery fence hit by vehicle at Amor
The driver of a vehicle lost control, entered a ditch and damaged a section of cemetery fencing at Amor, northwest of Otter Tail Lake.
The incident took place on Feb. 8. Damage was less than $1,000.
