A rural Frazee man facing several charges in a felony sex case died Nov. 24 as a result of suicide.
Frazee Police Chief Tyler Trieglaff provided the cause of death after receiving a Minnesota Data Practices Act request from the Tribune.
Patrick John Furey, 56, was facing two counts of felony second-degree criminal sexual conduct in Becker County District Court involving a teenage girl.
His death Nov. 24 came the day before he was to appear again in Becker County District Court on new charges: felony bribery and two misdemeanor counts of domestic abuse.
All the charges against Furey were dismissed Nov. 25 at the request of the Becker County Attorney’s Office because “the defendant is deceased,” according to court records. Related felony bribery charges were also dropped against Sara Jayne Furey, 45.
