Ecumen Detroit Lakes will host a presentation on senior fraud at 10 a.m. Friday, March 6. The presentation will be led by Marty Fleischhacker, the senior financial fraud ombudsman and civil enforcement liaison for the Minnesota Department of Commerce.
Fleischhacker was appointed to his position in 2019. For five years before that, he served as the assistant commissioner for the enforcement division. He has been with the Commerce Department since 1999.
His presentation will include information about common types of financial fraud and scams, who gets targeted and why, the scope of the problem, and tips about how to avoid becoming a victim. Common scams that target seniors include lottery, “grandparent” and investing scams. He will discuss the signs to watch for and who to contact for help if you, a family member or friend may be a target of scammers.
The event is free and open to the public. It will be in the Forest Center Conference Room on the Ecumen Detroit Lakes campus, 1415 Madison Ave.
