East Otter Tail's first-term legislator Mark Murdock overcame a challenge from within his own party to win the Republican nomination for the 2010 election.

State Rep. Murdock, R-Perham, won the Republican Party's endorsement for the District 10B House seat at the party's endorsing convention last week in Battle Lake.

Murdock, who is seeking his second term in the Min-nesota House of Representa-tives, outpolled challenger Sue Nelson for the endorse-ment.

To win the endorsement, a candidate needed 60 percent of the votes cast and Murdock achieved that total on the third ballot.

"Sue wished me well and I appreciate that," said Mur-dock, a long-time Perham businessman, who sold his Ace Hardware store to his son last year. "Now we need to come together and win as a unit in November. Jobs and education will remain priori-ties for me in a second term, along with traditional values like pro-life and preserving our gun rights. I also look forward to helping smaller government live within its means while doing all we can to support our military veter-ans.

Murdock has received high scores for his voting record from the National Rifle Association, the Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life and the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce.
