A third assisted living home has opened in Perham, and this one offers rooms for married couples - something not always available.
"A lot of times married couples are separated...that is why we wanted to offer shared rooms for couples," said Julie Reitmeyer, owner of the new assisted living home, in an interview last week.
Julie and her husband David Reitmeyer officially opened the doors to 7th Heaven Assisted Living, LLC on Jan. 1.
With its large double beds, 7th Heaven hopes to cater to married couples, allowing them to continue to live together when they move on to assistant living centers. Many times, assisted living centers have single rooms, and thus can't take couples.
The house has five bedrooms available for a total of 10 residents. Residents will receive full services such as meal preparation, housekeeping and personal care needs.

Julie has been in the home health business for eight years. In that time, she has seen a growing need for assisted living centers. In Julie's experience, a third assisted living center is a needed addition to the area.
The Reitmeyers are expecting their first resident to move in mid-January. The house will be fully staffed 24 hours a day, by either the Reitmeyers or other part-time staff members. It is licensed through the Minnesota Department of Health.
Julie is a licensed Registered Nurse. David has a Certified Nursing Assistant license and is currently attending school to become a Registered Nurse.
7th Heaven Assisted Living is located on 210 7th Ave. SE - hence the seven in the name.
