Its nothing new to see calf twins show up on the farm in the spring. Triplets, now thats another story.
When New York Mills dairy farmers Roy and Ronda Koehler heard one of their cows had triplets on April 1, they thought for sure it was an April Fools Day joke. But when Koehler Dairy herdsman Mike Hendrickx told Roy there were triplets in the barn on Friday, it was no joke.
Twins... yeah, Ill believe that, Roy said. Triplets? No, I couldnt believe that& but there they were.
Roys been working the family dairy farm for close to 30 years and said he sees twins born all the time, but this is the first time for triplets. Koehler Dairy milks about 335 cows, and including young stock, has about 400 cows on the farm located five miles north of town.
Roy said there have been three or four sets of twins born on the farm since the first of the year and seven calves total were born on April 1. He said seeing so many calves born on the same day is not uncommon since they practice program breeding.

The forehead and nose markings look about the same on the calf triplets, and with identification numbers 1641, 1642 and 1643 hanging from their ears the three holstein heifers made this April Fools Day one to remember for the Koehlers.
