What an incredible year this has been. When my name was called as the new Miss Perham on July 28, 2006, I was unaware of the life-changing lessons ahead.
When I first chose my platform focusing on fitness in children, I was not fully aware of the life-threatening epidemic. Writing bi-monthly in the Perham Enterprise Bulletin caused me to constantly research my platform. Through the year, I was able to gain more knowledge on the epidemic of obesity especially in children. In addition, through the academic program Science Research, I was able to conduct three studies on eating habits. There has been no greater accomplishment in my life than feeling as though I could write a book on the number of ways to stay healthful.
In January, I had the honor of teaching Kid's Cardio at the Perham Area Community Center (PACC). I met the most wonderful and faithful students, and I enjoyed their presence week after week. Thank you Candice for all your help. Through Kid's Cardio, I was able to create Kid's Day Out, a three hour activity offered on President's Day. The afternoon was definitely a success; everyone was dripping with sweat. Thank you Mom and Dad for your support for this activity as well. The PACC then offered me to teach a summer class called Fitness Fridays. This also has been a rewarding experience.
Throughout my reign, I prepared for the Miss Minnesota pageant. Through the preparation, I learned the most about myself. I gained poise, confidence, eloquence and every other characteristic one would expect a pageant girl to posses. I was also given more opportunities to act, which is one of my passions in life. Although I did not walk away with the crown, top five, or even top ten, I walked away with new friendships, a refresher course in dance, and a moment in which my whole family was together.
Thank you to every sponser and every individual who helped me during my reign. This year would not be the same without you!

I am now convinced that pageants are necessary for every woman. Whether she wins the title or not, there is always some person to meet, lesson to learn, or opportunity to gain from competing in a pageant.
Again, thank you to all of the people who have supported me during my reign, and best of luck to the upcoming Miss Perham 2007...you have an incredible year ahead of you!
