Mother could face neglect charges after dashcam captures toddler falling out of moving car in southern Minnesota

MANKATO, Minn. — A video of a toddler from southern Minnesota whose car seat fell out of a moving vehicle onto a busy road has gone viral, gaining national and international media attention.

The scene was captured by a Mankato man's dashcam and uploaded to Facebook Monday, Jan. 14.

In the video, the driver of a silver sedan taps her brakes near an intersection; the rear driver side door opens, allowing a car seat with a 2-year-old girl in it to tumble out on the pavement. The mother keeps driving, leaving the child behind as bystanders rush to get the girl out of the road.

The child was not harmed, according to Mankato police, but the mother, who eventually returned to the scene, could face neglect charges.

The Mankato Police Department said on Facebook that the child was properly fastened in the seat, but that the seat itself wasn't properly fastened to the vehicle.
