Devils Lake area couple rescued after saving dog from ice-covered lake
ST. MICHAEL, N.D. — A northeast North Dakota couple is safe after getting stranded on an ice-covered lake while rescuing their dog Sunday, April 21.
Joan Jacobs and her boyfriend were on Mallard Lake when she noticed their dog had fallen through the thin ice.
They slid out onto the lake in a small rowboat attached to the shore with a makeshift line made of rope and extension cords, but got stuck after saving the dog.
Devils Lake Search and Rescue was called out to rescue the couple and the dog from the lake.
Mallard Lake is a small lake just 1 mile west of St. Michael, a community near Devils Lake.
