Funeral services were held for Albert Tervo on Friday, May 11, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at the Apostolic Lutheran Church in New York Mills, Minnesota, with Pastor Don Salo, Pastor Andy Tumberg & Pastor Reino Maunu officiating. The music was provided by Todd Tumberg. The pallbearers were Tim Tumberg, Daryl Tumberg, Rodney Mursu, Karl Tervo, Paul Tervo and David Norby. The honorary pallbearers were the Elders' Home Staff. Albert was laid to rest in Woodland Cemetery in New York Mills, Minnesota.
Albert Charles Tervo was born on June 15, 1924 in Garnes Township, Red Lake County, Plummer, Minnesota. He was the son of Charles and Margaret (Isaacson) Tervo. He was baptized at home as an infant, was confirmed in Franklin, Minnesota and was a lifelong member of the Apostolic Lutheran Church. Al attended school in Plummer, Minnesota and graduated with the Class of 1942 from Pershing High School, Plummer. He was a farmer, owned and operated Tervo Construction, and was employed at Super One in Thief River Falls, Minnesota. He was a member on the Coop Store Board of Plummer, the Coop Oil of Oklee, and on the board of the Finnish National Cemetery. On October 17, 1964 Albert was united in marriage with Evelyn Tumberg at the Hjalmer Tumberg home in rural New York Mills, Minnesota. This union was blessed with one daughter, Renae Beth. Al and Evie moved from Plummer to New York Mills, Minnesota on May 3, 2003. While in New York Mills, he became involved in the Experience Works Program at the Regional Cultural Center, Finn Creek Museum, and the Elders' Home. His hobbies included crossword puzzles, sports events, and most importantly, being called "Grandpa". On Tuesday morning, May 8, 2007 Albert passed away at the Perham Memorial Hospital in Perham, Minnesota at 82 years of age. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Preceding Al in death were his parents, Charles and Margaret Tervo; brothers, Willard and Raymond; sisters, Helen, who died in infancy and Edna Carey; sister-in-law, Loretta Tervo; and brother-in-law, Richard Carey.
Al is survived by his wife of 42 years, Evelyn Tervo of New York Mills; daughter, Renae and her husband, Robb Vaules; grandson, Anderson Charles Vaules of Coeur d' Alene, Idaho; sister, Inez and Rudy Kalliainen of Rindge, New Hampshire; sister-in-law, Elsa Tervo of Vancouver, Washington; numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving are brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Arnold and Pat Tumberg, Clifford and Ann Tumberg, Martin and Helen Mursu, Andrew and Janet Tumberg, Jimmie and Nancy Tumberg and Earl and Julia Tumberg and their families.
