Jacket buddies

The Yellowjacket boys basketball team will be running the Jacket Buddies Basketball Program for the 12th year.

Jacket Buddies are a series of clinics on Saturday mornings throughout the basketball season. The first Jacket Buddies clinic this year will be on Dec. 2.

All students K-6 are invited to be a Jacket Buddy. The cost is $20. Jacket Buddy benefits include:

  • three or more clinics with Perham Yellowjacket players and coaches
  • Jacket Buddies t-shirt, shorts, water bottle, Jacket sack bag and skull cap
  • free admission to three Yellowjacket home basketball games (regular season..must wear Jacket Buddies t-shirt for free admission)
  • a Jacket Buddies basketball

Anderson running at the 'U'

Perham graduate Gabriele Anderson is a redshirt-sophomore on the University of Minnesota Women's Cross Country Team.

Anderson recently was the Gophers fifth runner at the Pre-Nationals Meet in Bloomington, Ind. on Oct. 14. Anderson finished 89th overall (245 runners) with a time of 21:37. The U of M finished second as a team at the meet, behind No. 1 Stanford.

On Sept. 30, Anderson finished 11th with a time of 18:05 at the South Dakota State Classic as the Gopher women took first as a team.

The Gophers recently moved up to No. 6 in the national polls.

Last spring, Anderson ran the U's third fastest 800m (2:08.69) for the track and field team, where she finished fifth in the Big-10.

Anderson and the rest of the Gopher runners will return to Bloomington, Ind. on Oct. 29 for the Big-10 Championships.

S-M Cardinals advance

Staples-Motley defended their Section 8A title with a 7-0 win over Crookston last week. They will now face Mounds-Park Academy in the State Class A quarterfinals in the Twin Cities.

The Class A State Tournament is being held Oct. 25-28 at the Reed-Sweatt Family Tennis Center in Minneapolis.

S-M finished fourth at the Class A State Tournament last year.

The Cardinals will also have two singles players, Katie and Abby Edin, competing individually as Section 8A representatives. 8A winners in doubles were Sara Dezell and Sheila Noska of S-M and Brittany Morris and Molly Simmons of Crookston.

Tot-time at the PACC

Tot-time, pre-school fun sponsored by the Early Childhood Initiative, is offered at the PACC Wednesday's and Thursday's from 10-11:30 a.m.

Cost is $1 per child.
