Aunie Ann Marie Koitila, age 89 of Menahga, MN formerly of New York Mills, MN, passed away on Friday, April 13, 2007 at Green Pine Acres Nursing Home in Menahga, MN. Aunie was born on July 11, 1917 to Matt and Anna (Jurmu) Koitila in New York Mills, MN. She was raised in the New York Mills area where she attended public school and graduated from New York Mills High School in 1934. Aunie began her medical career working for Dr. Hanson in New York Mills. From there she studied to become a radiology technician at Miller Hospital in St. Paul where she worked for several years. Her career then took her around the country to Billings, MT and Anchorage, AK finally settling in Seattle, WA. She retired to Menahga in the mid 1970's. Aunie will be remembered as an avid traveler and photographer. She enjoyed music and had a vast collection of recorded music. She was talented in crochet, needle point, and embroidery. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by family and friends.
Aunie is survived by one sister, Nanny Koitila of Menahga; one brother, Eino (Kay) Koitila of Pima, AZ; several nieces and nephews and her special long time friends John and Ruth Anderson of Anchorage, AK.
She is preceded in death by her parents and four siblings Ellen, Esther, Hildur and Walter; one nephew, John and a grand nephew, Craig.
Funeral services were held on Monday, April 16, 2007 at Green Pine Acres Nursing Home with Reverend Elmer Ylineimi officiating. The organist was Marjorie Kumma and the soloist was Tom Ellingson who sang "In The Sweet Bye And Bye" and "The Old Rugged Cross." Honorary casketbearers were the Staff of Green Pine Acres Nursing Home. Interment was at Menahga City Cemetery. Arrangements provided by Cardini-Pearson Funeral Home of Menahga.
