Bessie Abbott, 91, a resident of rural Erhard, died Tuesday, October 17, 2006 at the Broen Memorial Home Short Term Care Facility. 

 

She was born August 28, 1915, in Friberg Township, Otter Tail County, the daughter of Abner and Sophia (Clamby) Davidson.  She grew up in Friberg Township, attending country school there, and graduated from Fergus Falls High School.  After graduation, she remained in the Friberg Township area.  She married Orrin (Buzz) Abbott on October 22, 1939 at her parent's home.  After her marriage the couple resided on her family's home farm on Fogard Lake until they built their present home in Friberg Township.  She was a homemaker, worked on the family farm and rented out boats to many people who became lifelong friends. She was also the Assessor for Otter Tail County from 1964-1994 for Friberg and Maplewood Townships.

 

Bessie was a Sunday School teacher for 25 years at Maine Presbyterian Church.  She enjoyed baking, crocheting, working outside with her flowers, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Orrin (Buzz) Abbott who died in March of 1993.

 

She is survived by her children:  JoAnn (Dave) Satter, Dent, and Randy (Cyndi) Abbott, Erhard;  grandchildren:  Brad (Jean) Satter, Mike (Trisha) Satter, and Tammy (Vern) Monson, all of Dent, Shyla (Daryl) Swanson, Richville, and Tyson Abbott, Erhard; great-grandchildren:  Kari and Kayla Satter, Ryan, Dylan and Coltan Sattler, Tanner, Caitlyn and Sadee Monson, and Zane and Zoey Swanson; a sister, Gladys (Marvin) Kugler, Erhard; and numerous Friberg Angels, "The Kuglers".

 

Visitation:         5-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20 at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church

Service:            1 p.m. Saturday at Maine Presbyterian Church, rural Underwood

Clergy:             Reverend Glenn Lord
