Bette Prescher, 85, of Battle Lake died Wednesday, August 30, 2006 at the Battle Lake Good Samaritan Center.

She was born May 11, 1921 in Omaha, NE, to Leroy and Ella (Petersen) Wilson. She graduated from North High School in Omaha. On September 23, 1938 she was secretly married to Edwin Charles Prescher and one year later they had a public wedding. They were happily married for almost 68 years.

Bette and Ed purchased Balmoral Resort and Pavilion in 1948. Bette booked bands from all over the United States and was the originator of Platter Parties. They sold the store and dance pavilion in 1972. A portion of the lakeshore was sold in 1982 and Balmoral Condominiums were built on the site. They operated the Balmoral RV Park until 2001, at which time they retired after over 50 years in business.

Bette and Ed loved to travel and had traveled to all 50 states, Mexico, Canada, Panama Canal, Caribbean, Europe, Africa and the Far East. For the last 26 years they lived in Weslaco, TX during the winter. Bette also loved to play cards - bridge being her favorite - and played in several weekly bridge clubs. She enjoyed the competition at the bridge table and teaching bridge in Texas. She also enjoyed regularly taking casino money at the blackjack table. Reading, especially cookbooks, was another favorite pastime. She was a great cook and loved to entertain. She loved to laugh and enjoyed telling stories.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Battle Lake. Family was of utmost importance - she was the greatest wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a friend, lover and partner to Ed and will be greatly missed by her family.
