Despite dropping the baton in the 800 relay, Perham scored 143 points breaking a tie with Breckenridge through 15 of 18 events by going 1-2-3 in the 3200 to end the Rebels five-year hold on the title.

D-G-F hadnt been beaten at a conference meet indoor or outdoor in 12 events dating to 2000.

Apparently, theyre having a little bit of a down year finally, said Perham senior Caleb Anderson, who won the 400, finished second in the 200 and announced that hell attend Macalester College in the fall. Hell play basketball and hasnt ruled out playing football and track. Theyve been tough the last how many years, as long as I can remember.

Distance runners once again put the Jackets over the top in the 3200m. Nick Adkins led the way (10:28.46), followed by Ethan Huwe and Justin Tellinghuisen. In the 1600m, Jacket runners finished 2-3-4 with Eddie Stenger finishing as the runner-up and Kevin Lachowitzer and Huwe close behind.

Lachowitzer and Stenger finished 5th and 6th in the 800m run as well.

Perham also scored important points in the 110m hurdles, as Kurt Weber finished third, followed by Jake Hunter in fourth and Logan Schultz in sixth. Weber also turned in a third place finish in the 300m high hurdles.

Nathan Lillis had a pair of second place finishes, in the pole vault (116) and in the discus (1233.5). Right behind Lillis in the discus was Caleb Reuer wit ha toss of 1226. Aaron Field finished second in the shot put with a throw of 413.5

Girls finish third

Although the Agassiz Valley girls defended their crown, a run at a D-G-F-like dynasty wont be easy.

Three teams the Thunder, Breckenridge and Perham were separated by six points through 16 events. And when Breckenridge edged Agassiz Valley at the tape in the 1,600 relay, some of the Cowgirls on the infield shrieked in joy and slapped hands, while the Thunder coaches nervously counted on their fingers. A scoring error discovered just prior to the end of the meet made the margin of victory larger than initially thought.

Final scores: Agassiz Valley 122, Breckenridge 117, Perham 106.

Perham was led by Brittany Gigstead, who won the 800m run, the 1600m run and finished second in the 400m dash. Right on Gigsteads heels in the 1600m run was Maddie McClellan, who finished second.

McClellan also finished second in thr 3200m run with Sadie Ellenberg finishing fifth. Holly Sheets finished fourth behind Gigstead in the 400m and Jenna Gigstead was sixth behind her older sister in the 800m run.

Danielle Refsland placed fourth in the 100m hurdles and third in the 300m hurdles, behind teammate Ashley Palubicki, who finished second.

Both boys and girls teams won the 4x800 relay. The girls also won the 4x400 relay.

Daggett Invite

The Jackets didnt send many of the regular varsity athletes to compete in the 13th Annual Daggett Invite in Frazee last Thursday.

Despite not having their full team, the boys finished second overall with 77 points. Frazee won the boys team title with 96.5 points.

The boys scored most oftheir points in two events. Bryan Paridon finished second in the 800m run with a time of 2:09.02, just ahead of Charlie Nord in third and Justin Tellinghuisen in fourth. Together, they collected 18 team points in that event.

A 1-2 finish by Nick Adkins and Parker Carignan in the 1600m gave Perham another 18 points.

Nathan Lillis won the pole vault by clearing 116.

We gave a lot of our younger runners a chance to compete before we head into HOL and the sub section meet, said head coach Mike Peterson. We were very pleased with the efforts of our younger athletes in the meet. We had some of our regular starters use the meet as a training meet.

The girls finished 12th out of 12 teams with 11 points. Agassiz Valley won the girls team title with 131.5 points. Alli Januszewskis points for a sixth place finish in the 1600m run were the only points earned by a Perham individual. The 4x100 relay finished fourth and the 4x200 team took third.
